Immersive quadraphonic soundscape composition, 4th Gwangju Contemporary Art & Vision Exhibition

As part of the group exhibition “Garden of Imagination”, Bodo Hartwig created an immersive sound composition that immerses visitors in the nocturnal atmosphere of a Korean pond. Four loudspeakers generate a spatial sound image of authentic natural sounds from the Damyang region: the gentle lapping of water, interspersed with the polyphonic chorus of frogs and giant toads. The sounds were recorded in the immediate vicinity of a bamboo grove, where the acoustic backdrop of water and amphibians merges with the quiet sounds of bamboo into a living sonic tapestry. “Pond” invites visitors to pause and experience the meditative quality of this nocturnal natural scene – an imaginary garden brought to life through sound.
