Throw It All In

Sound installation, 48h Neukölln “Satt”, Vollgutlager Kindl Brewery

A sun lounger – symbol of relaxation and leisure. Positioned at the apex of a stereo triangle, it vibrates to the rhythm of supermarket sounds: shopping carts, the hum of refrigerated shelving, the monotonous beeping of checkout scanners, snatches of conversation amid the bustle of shopping. What at first sounds familiar becomes, through the physical transmission of the vibrations, intense and unsettling. The installation poses uncomfortable questions: what exactly are we throwing so thoughtlessly into our shopping trolleys? What truly satisfies us? The everyday sounds we usually tune out confront us with our own patterns of consumption – the last shop, the next meal, the relationship between mindfulness and excess.
